B roll from a busy July in Upstate New York. Deep summer is my favorite time of the year, by far. August and September in New England make enduring the cold and gray months of January and February worth it. This Video Field Note spans from the city to the countryside all painted in the light of a late summer sunset.

Impressive Mammatus formation on the underside of a cumulonimbus in Halfmoon, New York on July 23, 2016.
About Mammatus Clouds: Cumulonimbus, from the Latin cumulus ("heap") and nimbus ("rainstorm", "storm cloud"), is a dense towering vertical cloud [1] associated with thunderstorms and atmospheric instability, forming from water vapor carried by powerful upward air currents. If observed during a storm, these clouds may be referred to as thunderheads. Cumulonimbus can form alone, in clusters, or along cold front squall lines. These clouds are capable of producing lightning and other dangerous severe weather, such as tornadoes. Cumulonimbus progress from overdeveloped cumulus congestus cloudsand may further develop as part of a supercell. Cumulonimbus is abbreviated Cb and are designated in the D2 family. [via Wikipedia]

Video Field Notes | Long Hot Summer
The past few weeks have been painful to watch through the lens the 24 hour news cycle and through the statuses of friends on social media. I'm not going to claim I know what it's like to be either be black in America or a member of law enforcement. I just hope that our nation can find some middle ground and heal. What I do know is that I am against unjustified killings of anyone regardless of race or chosen profession. We are all Americans and need to remember we are tied to one another. Commonalitles are more important than differences.

Nor'easter Films Featured in 2017 International Cloud Atlas
This video and associated stills of a snow devil captured in Halfmoon, New York in February of 2014 will be featured in the World Meteorological Organization's 2017 edition of the International Cloud Atlas.
From Wikipedia: The International Cloud Atlas (also Cloud Atlas) is a cloud atlas first published in 1896] and remaining in print since then. Its initial purposes included to aid in the training of meteorologists and to promote more consistent use of vocabulary describing clouds, both important for early weather forecasting. The first edition featured color plates of color photographs, then still a very new technology, yet was noted for being inexpensive. Numerous later editions have been published.
